What is Web Design?

Web design refers to the design of websites that are displayed on the internet. It usually refers to the user experience aspects of website development rather than software development. Web design used to be focused on designing websites for desktop browsers; however, since the mid-2010s, design for mobile and tablet browsers has become ever-increasingly important.
A responsive and adaptive website usually makes use of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as well as jQuery to create a clean and effective website that suits all screen sizes. A responsive website will display a header, navigation, and footer in a particular way while keeping the content on the page intact and visible. Also called liquid, this type of layout takes up the full width of a browser but changes its height in proportion to the screen size. A liquid layout also means that aesthetic features such as sidebars or banners will remain at the same distance from each other independently of their location on-page – all without causing confusion for users.
A web designer’s role has changed dramatically in the last decade – with responsive design and adaptive design, a designer is responsible for the look and feel of the content. Additionally, they must be skilled in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other programming languages to make these designs come to life.
